2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 17,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

To everyone who’s read, liked and commented on Randoms by a Random, I just want to say. Thank you very much. Not trying to sound cheesy here (okay, maybe a little bit), but I couldn’t have done it without you guys. And wordpress suggested I send a Thank you note to my top commenters: Priceless Joy, Prakash Hegade, JoyRoses, Noirfifre and Nimmi. Thank you.

Behind every successful blog are amazing readers… ❤

1 Year Anniversary!!!

1 Year Anniversary!!!

Randoms by a Random clocked one full year yesterday and I just want to scream out loud- “We did it!!!” This blog would not have been possible without every single one of you who liked, commented, re-blogged, followed and encouraged me. This time last year, I wrote my very first blog post and now, here I am with over 670 followers, an amazing network of bloggers and some wonderful people I am happy and proud to call my friends.

It’s been an amazing ride and journey. Through blogging, I fell in love once again with writing and I know now for a fact, I cannot go back to “not writing”. If anyone had told me someday I would be able to write a story and Flash fiction (which I thought was extremely difficult), I wouldn’t have believed them. I owe it to you guys, (particularly Priceless Joy and Joy roses) who encouraged me to write those stories anyhow, and now, I can’t stop writing them. Thank you.

Not to make this long and boring, but really thank you so much guys for helping me to fall in love with writing once again and for keeping this blog afloat. It’s all because of you.
PS: Khadijah I see you sneaking up on my stats ;). Thanks for the encouragement girl, I love you and you know it.

The highlight of my blogging year is this interview I conducted for writing201 of a dear friend of mine struggling with depression. It hit close to home and I regard it as one of my favorites. For my recent followers here’s the link: Living with depression and beating the odds

I would love to hear from you, what has been your favorite post so far or which of my categories do you look forward to the most?

Award: 7 facts about me

Award: 7 facts about me

Here we go again… Alright so, seven facts about me:

1) I have watched the series “Nikita” so much that I already know the dialogue by heart. Same goes for 3 idiots and chak de India and they are in Hindi 😀

2) Lived in my apartment for eight months now and I’ve only switched on the TV twice.

3) Flowers and Flour make me swoon, (go figure) 😉

4) I started university at the age of fifteen.

5) Not sure how I’ll survive without coffee.

6) my favorite chore is ironing, there is just something so relaxing about it.

7) I love Fridays! It’s my only day off from school too.
I got nominated by a fellow Big Bang theory fan and an amazing writer, and blogger for the creative bloggers award. Thank you Prakash.
And, two wonderful and versatile bloggers nominated me for the Versatile blogger award. Mutafariq khayalat who writes really amazing poetry and Noirfifre who blogs about historical facts in an interesting manner. Thank you very much.

Some of the people I am going to nominate host award free blogs but I just couldn’t help but highlight their amazing blogs. Rather than a nomination, this is me saying thank you to them for sharing their creative and versatile works.

1) PricelessJoy hosts an award free blog where she posts stories, flash fiction and photography. She is one of the reasons I write stories more often now due to her encouragement and also just seeing how her writing has transformed from then to now is amazing.

2) my second nominee is JoyRoses whose blog houses a variety of wonderful posts ranging from family stories, to fictions to some incredible quotes. And they are sure to make you laugh.

3) Mandibelle, whose stories have such a creative and imaginative backbone to them. And she also blogs about a variety of topics including poetry, personal posts and product reviews as well.

4) SweetyKannoth whose poetry leaves you wanting more. Need I say more.

Agh, there are so many people I’ld love to nominate but I see they have already been nominated. But still, you can choose to accept either the versatile or creative blogger award or even both it’s up to you. And to my followers who have already been nominated by Prakash and Mutafariq, congratulations!

For the RULES, all you have to do is write 5-7 random facts about yourself and spread the love (nomination) to other creative and versatile bloggers as well.

Liebster Award: question time!

I got nominated for the Liebster Award by The Indian Reverted Muslimah who is a wonderful blogger that blogs about her journey as a revert as well as, openly offers support to sisters I need of comfort. She is also an awesome fiction writer so d check her put if you have the time. It’s been a while since I posted on a nominations but I really liked the questions she posed. And, the class I was meant to have this morning got postponed so, a little free time.

1) what inspired you to blog and has blogging helped you?
I was thinking about this a few days ago and I came to the conclusion that I just woke up one morning and decided to blog. No reason or logic, I had the time and I was in a good state of mind, so I decided, well, I might just blog. And I am so glad it had worked out fine.

2) what is that one wish that you would like to be fulfilled on this dunya?
For peace to prevail and happiness to be in every one’s heart. Okay, that’s two wishes.

3) Is there anything that you’ve been wanting to write about since a long time but haven’t penned it down yet? If yes, then what is it about?
Actually, there are a lot of things I would love to write about. I think there’s always going to be that one thing we “want” to write on and In Sha Allah, at the right time, I’ll get to writing it.

4) what is the one thing/ change that you think will help you come a step closer to Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala)?
Em, I think continuous striving. Making changes are hard, but I believe striving towards those changes with an open mind and heart.

5) Who is that one person you wish to meet on person but haven’t yet got an opportunity to? (After our prophet (Saw))
I Believe all the people I need in my life, I have them right now. So, I don’t think there’s anyone I’m dying to meet. Maybe I’ll remember after posting this.

6) What duaa (prayer) would you make for your neighbors?
Haha, alright then: a May God grant them the heart to forgive me when I (un)knowingly wrong them. And may they have the good of their hearts desire. Oh yeah, and for those who are single amongst them, may they get a good husband.

7) your favorite food?
A local Nigerian dish made with only three Ingredient: flour, baobab powder and Kanwa (can’t remember the English name). The dish is called Dan Wake

8) Your favorite person in the family and why?
I have five siblings and so answering this is akin to creating world war 3. One thing I’ve learned, there is no favorite person. Only favorite people, which is all of them.

9) would you forgive someone who has hurt you too much on the condition of you being his/her neighbor in Jannah?
Considering this world to that is like a drop in the ocean, I’d say, Heck yeah! I do pray I have the mind to do so (forgive) cause it is easier said than done.

10) what is the color you wear the most?
Now this is a tough one. I’d say- black, pink, brown, green,

11) who is the one blogger whose blogs you admire the most?
A lot of blogs I follow inspire me in endless ways. Each unique in their own way and I admire them for that. Pin-pointing one is too hard a choice.

I know there are rules to follow and all when accepting these awards, but rules are meant to be broken right? Okay, that’s just my excuse for not following them this time. Thank you reverted Muslimah for the nomination, I really enjoyed answering these. 🙂
