“Those days”-

“Those days”-

image

There are days,
When
The weight of the burden
Of the world,
Seem to fall
On two frail shoulders;
Days-
When the effort it takes
To smile
And pretend
Seem more,
Much more,
Than one soul can bear;
Days-
When to utter
Soft words
Is a feat impossible.
When reality,
Life-
Seems like
a dark cycle
With no silver lining.

Trudging,
Sailing through
Those muddy days,
Makes one
Nothing less than a warrior.
And when all’s said
And done-
You fought,
Scar and all,
Hold your head up
And strut,
Like the Warrior you are.

Pretty-

Pretty-

image

All that you are,
Isn’t reflected in the mirror;
And the face looking back,
Is but a twinkle of a star;
The scales that you mount,
They measure lipos and calories;
But the worth of your heart,
Can’t be measured and priced.

When your clavicle pokes up,
Passers-by call you pretty;
So you run extra kilometers,
Spending hours in the gymnasium;
You eat at the brink of starvation,
Feeling dizzy and lightheaded;
But my God, you think it is worth it
Passers-by would call you pretty.

All that you are girl,
Can’t be reflected in the mirror;
It shows you face worth,
Not the reality your soul captures;
And the words passersby throw,
Is but a drop in the ocean;
So you say it ain’t so,
I’m always pretty regardless

Writer’s Quote: Maya Angelou

Whenever I post a Maya Angelou quote, I don’t like writing much under it because her words are sufficient and have such profound wisdom in them, I feel anything I write would be subliminal. It’s been over a year since Dr. Maya passed away but her words live on as a source of inspiration and that’s the strength of writing. Her poems are a testament of a woman who went through fierce storms but didn’t let them cloud the shine in her rainbow. You read her works like, phenomenal woman and Still I rise and you can almost hear the sass in her voice as you sift through the words, savoring every sentence, every line, every verse.

I chose the above quote because it’s a reminder of something we are in desperate need of, all across the globe. We are in dire need of peace, but in order to attain it, we have to be unified; we have to be color blind; we have to realize we are more alike than we are unalike.

We’ve all got our struggles and just because they are different doesn’t make them any less of a torment than any other persons. I read recently about the importance of writers support groups. There are days as writers where we’ll feel like “we just can’t do it anymore”. You know who’s going to be there in our corners, pushing us on, those writers who have once sailed across the turbulence. They’ve been there and crossed it, it wasn’t easy but they did it. They are the ones who’d help paddle our boats across the storms, being our support systems when our creative juices clog.

A big thank you to everyone who has participated in writer’s Quote this year and has been a source of inspiration to me and also to Colleen from SilverThreading, for hosting this event In the first place. That’s it, and see you in 2016, God willing.

Writer’s Quote- Yasmin Mogahed

There are many pieces that make up our lives: moments that make and break us. Moments that raise and shape us. Decisions we make to hold on, or let go. People who enter our lives and leave us changed forever. The ones we love, the ones that hurt us, or heal us, or leave us. Sometimes, we don’t understand these pieces- or even despair over them. It’s only when time goes by and we look back, that we suddenly can see our whole life like a perfectly designed puzzle.

Don’t be afraid of the puzzle piece you are in now. It will fit perfectly… Just like the rest. How could it not? The designer is Perfect.

                   –Yasmin Mogahed

For writer’s Quote Wednesday, I decided to submit this quote I found by Yasmin Mogahed because I think it’s something we all can relate to. This life is a puzzle piece and for many of us, it seems incomplete and imperfect too. But here’s the thing, Of course it’s imperfect; life itself is an incomplete puzzle and with everyday and every challenge, the puzzle piece gets one step closer to becoming complete. I haven’t seen an incomplete puzzle piece that looks perfect too. So also life, as we go through this journey of completing our puzzle, it would seem like an imperfect one. When all is said and done, and we take a deep breath and glance back, then, we would be able to fully grasp and appreciate the perfection of it all.

On a last note, and even though this is unrelated to the quote above, I feel the need to share it; as a reminder to myself first of all, and also to everyone else who has a dream:

      “If it is worth dreaming about then it is worth doing. Do not give up on your dreams“.

She Was; She is-

She Was; She is-

image

She was a dreamer, a screamer;
A liver, a lover;
Naive in a bubble;
Steam off a cooker-
She was a smart ass, a talker;
A singer, a fighter;
A cryer, dramatic;
Rude and annoying-
She was a little girl with siblings;
In trouble, too often;
Funny and loving;
Through childhood, always running.

She was a dreamer, with less voice;
A liver, not loving;
Innocence now fading;
An ice she’s becoming-
She was a smart ass, deluded
With dreams, lightly rooted;
Religion, a burden;
A flower, not blooming.

She is a dreamer, a liver;
On water, a surfer;
Surviving the high waves;
Atop all the rocking-
She is a smart ass, a talker;
A fighter, with calm words;
Religion, her solace;
A flower, now blooming;
A little girl, who’s made it.
