She’s my person-

She’s my person-

image.jpeg

Here’s to the girl who reminded me- the importance of being fractured and cracked, as the only way light could illuminate my heart; always at hand with her cheery smile.

Here’s to the girl with the huge nerdy glasses who’s face, always embedded in the pages of a book, spared her hours to hear my baseless rants.

Here’s to the girl who curled up beside my trembling body, her silence speaking and endearing more than any words could.

Here’s to the girl with books as her weapon and dreams as her shield, who opened her secluded world to a friend in need.

Here’s to the girl, who schooled me in the saying, broken is another word for “not quite there yet”.

Here’s to the girl, an outsider turned family, through tears and adversity.

Here’s to the girl, my proof- that a woman can uplift another woman too.

Here’s to that girl, my person.

Of all the lights-

Of all the lights-

image

All the light,
She may not see;
The cries at night,
From her baby’s lips;
Too weak to help-
She breaks within.

Six months of chemo,
To save her skin;
Her lymphos attacking-
The Rbcs’;
It’s you against you-
A battle steep.

Hope is as long as,
the heart- beats.
Survive for her daughter-
She strives to win;
Leukemia or not,
Fight it out- she will.
The end maybe near-
It’s not gotten yet-
The light at the end-
She’s determined, she’ll see.

I dedicate this to a warrior I know. I love you and you’ll get through this. This is just a journey, not the end. I also dedicate this to every single person who has battled or is battling. I leave you with this message-

G- Google

G- Google

image

The love I have for google,
Words couldn’t describe;
I simply type a question,
The answer comes alive;
The days of chasing neighbors,
And pleading through my teeth;
Going around in circles,
Google has set me free.

With coffee and some paper,
A pen in hand, I type;
The words needing clarification
And thus the screen replies;
Oh google, if only you knew,
The smile I cannot hide-
When answers flow in as I type,
I bet you’ll die of pride.

The Hearts that keep on Loving-

The Hearts that keep on Loving-

image

They always leave,
Don’t they?
They say they won’t-
Make promises too.

And we believe it,
Don’t we?
Heart and all-
With every cell in our bone.

And we go on,
Loving…
Being the heart-
That just keeps on loving.

And we weep,
One day-
Cause they’re gone,
long since.

Another one arrives
And we?
But we love-
oh, yet again.

And though times-
have changed;
Some, like us
Are the still the same.

We can’t help,
But keep on loving;
Being the heart-
That just keeps on loving.

It’s clicked to me that there are some people who are what I call ‘lovers’. Despite it all, heart breaks, broken friendships, disheveled families- they still keep on loving. Treating every new friendship or relationship as if they have never been broken. If I am lucky enough that any of these beautiful souls are reading this, then this poem is for you guys- ‘The hearts that just keep on loving

A gem amidst rubles-

A gem amidst rubles-

image

My respect for you
Has doubled and tripled;
When all doors are closing,
Your feet are unhindered;
Though unappreciated,
By those at the table;
You still keep on pushing,
Striving and fighting-
For peace to prevail,
In a now broken palace;
For girls to be brought back,
Though hope is now faltered;

I respect you Dear Ma,
For efforts unwavered;
For keeping your words,
When the leaders are faltering;
For staying afloat,
With the waves all about you ;
Words aren’t enough for
Effort you’ve been putting-
To finding the girls
Neglected by the elders;
But words all I have,
And I give them to you Ma-
In respect and love,
And wishes that you prosper
Keep staying afloat-
A rare gem amidst rubles.

This poem is dedicated to Mrs Oby Ezekwesili, one of the few Nigerians who till date are still struggling an airing their voices, striving and urging for the return of over 200 school girls kidnapped  more than 8 months ago. Words are all I have, and this only way I know how.
