I just received notification that I’ve been nominated for the versatile blogger award by another wonderful blogger Patricia of Openunated.wordpress.com . I was warmed by the comment she included with the link. It is a great feeling to know that your blog and writings/ ramblings are appreciated and enjoyed by someone. While I was writing this post, another notification popped up. This time, I was nominated by The Private public girl. So thank you both for the nominations.

Sisterhood of the World

Sisterhood of the World

I got nominated again for the sisterhood of the world bloggers award by “ColdChickenSoup” and she posed some really fun and unexpected questions. Thank you so much for this nomination and I’m glad our paths have crossed even if it’s on the blogosphere- here are my answers:

1. What is that one movie that you can’t get enough of?
Ahhh, I’ve got loads of them. But if I have to choose five, it’d be- Inception, Now you see me, chak de India, Fast 5, 3 idiots.

2. Who is/are your favorite person/peeps?
My family. I know it sounds cheesy but when I’m with family, nothing else matters. And friends that become family too.

3. Beauty or brains?
If you mean which I prefer, I’d say brains. Beauty is awesome for the first few moments, but brains leave a lasting impression. So beauty fades, brains remain.

4. What are the characteristics of your ideal man?
Hahaha, I wasn’t expecting this question at all. Well let’s put it this way- if I knew my characteristics of my ideal man, trust me I wouldn’t be single, would have grabbed him by the horns.

5. What is your favorite quote and why?
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”– this is one of the quotes that help me in my day to day life. It’s a constant reminder for whenever I am tempted to judge a person.

6. What was your family like growing up?
From what i’ve been told, my family had a pretty smooth life with two “very obedient and quiet” kids until I came along. Growing up was fun. If it wasn’t, honestly, I wouldn’t know because as a kid, I remember making the most of very moment- I lived in a bubble.

7. What’s it like when you had the best date of your life?
I’m going to save this space up for when that happens.

8. If you’re a student what do you study (course)?
I’m in my 4th year studying medicine.

9. What is your favorite flower?
I am not well versed in flowery to have a favorite, but I do love roses.

10. Do you agree that love is blind? Why or why not?
I think falling in love for the first time can be what you refer to as “blind” because most times it’s all frills and butterflies, and we’re oblivious to a lot of things especially the”love’s” faults. But eventually, we begin to see clearly and that’s the make it or break it stage. So for me, I wouldn’t say “love is blind” for people who’ve been together for a couple of years.

And now, considering I haven’t seen a “brotherhood of the world bloggers award” in circulation yet, I believe it’s about time we have one. So, I’ld love to nominate some amazing male bloggers whose blogs I believe deserve it.

 Prakash Hegade
Richard Ankers (who hosts an award free blog but I just wanted to recognize 🙂 )

1) what is your favorite book
2) why do you blog?
3) define love according to you
4) if you had to choose one- fiction, non-fiction, poetry, which would you choose and why?
5) characteristic of your ideal woman
6) life is- a roller coaster, mountain climb, landslide, other.
7) favorite author
8) what legacy would you like to leave.

The rules for accepting this award are:
1) Thank and link back to the person who nominated you for the award.

Blog Tour Award: on Creative Process

Blog Tour Award: on Creative Process

image

I was nominated by the wonderful Ruth whose poetry blog is hosted at I-read for the blog tour award in which I have to answer four questions about my creative writing process. Let’s hope this post doesn’t bore you ;). And thank you so much for this Ruth.

RULES

Pass the tour on up to four other bloggers.

Give them the rules and a specific Monday to post.

Answer four questions about your creative process which lets other bloggers and visitors know what inspires you to do what you do.

Compose a one-time post on a specific Monday (date given from your nominator).

1) WHAT I’M WORKING ON AT THE MOMENT:
At the moment, I am taking things one day at a time. No personal deadlines or goals, and I must say, that is the best decision I ever made. I’m focusing on writing for myself but at the same time, improving with every story/poem. I am slowly shifting out of my comfort zone by writing and sharing stories which is a big deal for me. And just balancing it all with the work load of school. So even though I’m not working on a specific thing at the moment, I feel like, my plate is (almost) full.

2) HOW DOES MY WORK DIFFER FROM OTHERS IN MY GENRE?
Em, okay this is a hard one. When it comes to stories, most (if not all) of my fiction are actually based on true life events in one way or the other. I see things and interpret them in my one words and views, which is what I term realistically tragic. My poetry, on the other hand, I’d say is a circle. The last part of my poems are usually wrap-ups to the first part- so you find the beginning meshes in the end. How it differs with others? I’m not so sure, but I believe no two writers are the same so that in it self makes it different.

3) WHY DO I WRITE OR CREATE WHAT I DO?
This is a question I have asked myself time and time again. In fact, for those of you who have been following this blog for quite a while now, you’d recall that there are a number of poems I wrote solely on the question “why do I write?” And the truth is, I’m still searching for the answer. So to simply put it, I think for now, I write because I know nothing better; I write because writing and happiness go hand in hand for me. The paper is the one true friend that would always listen to my jumbles, with no perks and no judgement. And that I think is part of why I write. And honestly, to me, writing is not a “want”, it’s something that I “need” to do; writing has never been an option, it’s a necessity.

4) HOW DOES MY WRITING/ CREATIVE PROCESS WORK?
I am inspired most times by “harsh reality”. The emotions of others are usually what spur my writing. I can be sitting in class and hear a few words spoken by others, and that’d be my inspiration. Or I could be walking on the street and see a couple fighting or a girl crying or just any kind of emotion (or lack) and that spurs my writing. The words begin to form and I just have to let them down in writing. I don’t have a specific time for writing, it doesn’t work for me that way. But sometimes when I seem to have a block, I force and push myself to write something. I stare at the pad screen and slowly I begin to fill it up with words. I like to think that sometimes our brains need a little push as well.

Now, I NOMINATE *drumrolls*
As I have been labelled “rule breaker” by a dear blogger friend of mine here, I figured well, why not break another rule. And also, I realise a lot of my followers host “award free blogs” so instead- I nominate every single one of you who has the time, to please accept this award. Oh yes, the Monday for submission is March 23. Can’t wait to read what tickles your creative bone 🙂

Liebster Award: question time!

Liebster Award: question time!

image

I got nominated for the Liebster Award by The Indian Reverted Muslimah who is a wonderful blogger that blogs about her journey as a revert as well as, openly offers support to sisters I need of comfort. She is also an awesome fiction writer so d check her put if you have the time. It’s been a while since I posted on a nominations but I really liked the questions she posed. And, the class I was meant to have this morning got postponed so, a little free time.

1) what inspired you to blog and has blogging helped you?
I was thinking about this a few days ago and I came to the conclusion that I just woke up one morning and decided to blog. No reason or logic, I had the time and I was in a good state of mind, so I decided, well, I might just blog. And I am so glad it had worked out fine.

2) what is that one wish that you would like to be fulfilled on this dunya?
For peace to prevail and happiness to be in every one’s heart. Okay, that’s two wishes.

3) Is there anything that you’ve been wanting to write about since a long time but haven’t penned it down yet? If yes, then what is it about?
Actually, there are a lot of things I would love to write about. I think there’s always going to be that one thing we “want” to write on and In Sha Allah, at the right time, I’ll get to writing it.

4) what is the one thing/ change that you think will help you come a step closer to Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala)?
Em, I think continuous striving. Making changes are hard, but I believe striving towards those changes with an open mind and heart.

5) Who is that one person you wish to meet on person but haven’t yet got an opportunity to? (After our prophet (Saw))
I Believe all the people I need in my life, I have them right now. So, I don’t think there’s anyone I’m dying to meet. Maybe I’ll remember after posting this.

6) What duaa (prayer) would you make for your neighbors?
Haha, alright then: a May God grant them the heart to forgive me when I (un)knowingly wrong them. And may they have the good of their hearts desire. Oh yeah, and for those who are single amongst them, may they get a good husband.

7) your favorite food?
A local Nigerian dish made with only three Ingredient: flour, baobab powder and Kanwa (can’t remember the English name). The dish is called Dan Wake

8) Your favorite person in the family and why?
I have five siblings and so answering this is akin to creating world war 3. One thing I’ve learned, there is no favorite person. Only favorite people, which is all of them.

9) would you forgive someone who has hurt you too much on the condition of you being his/her neighbor in Jannah?
Considering this world to that is like a drop in the ocean, I’d say, Heck yeah! I do pray I have the mind to do so (forgive) cause it is easier said than done.

10) what is the color you wear the most?
Now this is a tough one. I’d say- black, pink, brown, green,

11) who is the one blogger whose blogs you admire the most?
A lot of blogs I follow inspire me in endless ways. Each unique in their own way and I admire them for that. Pin-pointing one is too hard a choice.

I know there are rules to follow and all when accepting these awards, but rules are meant to be broken right? Okay, that’s just my excuse for not following them this time. Thank you reverted Muslimah for the nomination, I really enjoyed answering these. 🙂
