A conversation with Depression-

A conversation with Depression-

image

Depression knocked on my door,
And I told it,
Have a seat,
It wasn’t even dawn,
At least let me have a cup of coffee,
In peace, at least-
I said to my depression.

Depression knocked on my door,
And I welcomed it
With open arms,
We’ve been together
For so long now,
We might as well be friends,
Right?
Depression knocked and I welcomed it.

Depression knocked on my door,
And we had a one sided-
Conversation,
While the sky turned golden behind us,
I said-
You’ve had your stay
And I have entertained you,
Now- it’s time to take your leave,
I said to my depression.

Depression knocked on my door,
Like an unwanted guest,
Which tends to overstay it’s welcome.
But the birds sung a melodious,
Tune In the background,
And I turned the door knob
To a lock,
With a passion I didn’t think,
Existed within me,
I said to my depression-
We are done!

  1. This is a beautiful and powerful piece. I wish we really could say “we are done.” But at least I think you say, we can try to be positive about it.

  2. I love your soul. Depression is real and what burns me inside so deeply is how so many people who have never experienced that never ending agonizing pain, can just treat it as nothing and or treat us like the plague. I deal with it often for various reasons, sometimes I can’t even pin point it. This was healing. Thank you for this. Peace and love to you.

    1. I literally said out loud “oh my”, it’s one of the best feelings for me to read a comment from someone who connects with the poem. It’s actually pains me that people can dismiss something as hurtful as mental illness, casually and they aren’t even willing to understand it.
      No, thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

  5. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in this form of poetry. It just shows the things that we people with depression are struggling from in our day to day lives. Depression comes to our lives unexpectedly. Even in our most best form and stable days, once it knocks on our door, it can start to shatter us into pieces. Everything then just starts to fall apart, we begin to develop this various feelings of helplessness, worthlessness, and then be overcome with guilt. It’s a day to day struggle, and just like your poetry at the end, we have the power to overcome it and be able to lock depression away in our lives.

    1. The pleasure is all mine, and thank you very much for reading this piece of mine and commenting thoughtfully in it. I wanted to depict the relationship with depression could go on for so long that, it feels like a guest that’s bound to always come because it will be welcomed in. And someday, it will come to find the door locked ❤️

  6. Wonderfully written. Depression is so common and so difficult:/ I just wrote about telling the difference between sadness and depression. I feel like people often mix them up
