Humans have a tendency to want to give up when the doors are closing and it seems like the roof is caving in. This tendency culminates into some people actually giving up and the others deciding to try just once more. Not everyone who tries again is going to achieve their desired goal. The difference between those who tried yet again and those who didn’t is, for the latter, it’s always going to be at the back of their mind like a nightmare which refuses to back away, the question- what would life had been like if they had given it one more shot. And the answer is, they’d never know.

Rejection is bad, but regrets, they can eat at the soul. This doesn’t mean that I’ve never ran through the slit opening of a door when I realized it was closing; trust me, I have had my fair share of running, giving up and regretting. But, I’m working at making that attitude a thing of the past. Will it be easy? Absolutely not, but I have a feeling I’d go to bed feeling much better knowing I gave it one more shot.

Here’s to writing meaningless sentences till we finally get the inspiration to write the meaningful ones. Here to rhyming words like “the cat sat on a hat” until the rhymes take a world of their own. Here’s to giving our best shots in hopeless situations.

P.S, what are your favorite gray’s anatomy quotes?

  1. I so agree with you – rejection is bad but regrets eat at the soul. I think that is especially the case with any kind of artistic career, writing, painting, music, acting. As if you can make a living out of it, it is not like a job at all, you are doing what you love and getting paid for it. I started writing my blog while I was waiting to hear from agents about my novel, which despite much effort on my part is going nowhere at the moment. But the blog really is going somewhere pretty rapidly at the moment. If I get a book deal for the blog I will have been trying on and off to be paid for my personal writing (rather than journalism) since 1999. But that is still a lot less time than it’s taken me to sort out my mental health problems which started with anorexia when I was 7 or 8 and are only now just in recovery decades later.

  2. Great post. Yeah forsure it is always a fight to achieve ones dreams. That’s how it should be. Then you appreciate what you fought for. My favorite Grey’s quotes. There are so many but I’ll give you my favorites I can remember from the top of my head

    1. Christina: “Derek, is not the sun Meradith you are.”

2.Meradith to Christina: “You’re my person.”

      1. Yes, I do. I think they won an Emmy for their show. The show has been great. Getting used to new characters. New episodes start here Feb 14 and Meredith is attacked! I can’t wait! The quote about the sun is my favourite. I think because it remind us that we are still full individuals in a relationship not only partners. Thanks Ameena.

  4. You know Ameena, there was a study done with elderly people. They were asked what they most regretted in life. one of the top 20 answers was that they didn’t take more risks. Here’s to taking risks eh.

  5. Ah, I uae to binge watch this school because I discovered on uni break during reruns. My uncle said something to me years ago, he said “When you are about to give up your deliverance is around the corner. If you give up then, you will not see the blessing.” (Paraphrase, shorten version) Talk about motivation to strive!

    1. Haha, no worries, I hate when autocorrect does that too. I started watching it too but didn’t go far, stopped at season 2. Your uncle was absolutely right! Such wisdom in his words.
