I began re-reading “To kill a mockingbird” by Harper Lee recently and for the few who haven’t read it yet, this book has little to do with mockingbirds. For a very long time, Louisa May Alcott’s “Little women, Good wives” was on top of my favorite books list but after reading Mockingbird, there is now a shift in the top 3 position.
So today, I am going to share with you some of my favorite quotes from To Kill A Mockingbird:
1) You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it
2) As you grow older, you’ll see white men cheat black men everyday of your life, but let me tell you something and don’t you forget it- whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes from, that white man is trash.
3) “Cry about the simple hell people give other people- without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give colored folks without even stopping to think that they’re people too.”
4) People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for.
5) I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.
6) It’s never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn’t hurt you.
7) People in their right minds never take pride in their talent.
8) Until I feared I would lose it, I never learned to read. One does not love breathing.
And my personal favorite:
“It’s not time to worry yet”– This particular quote was repeated through out the book numerous times. And now, anytime I feel down in the dumps, I think to myself, it’s not yet time to worry.
Thanks for reading and Have a Lovely day! 🙂
Great quotes!

Great quotes! I remember reading that in High-school and really liking it and our HS did the play also. My husband bought me a classic today. Jane Eyre. Have you read that?

I wish we read it in my school rather than the other ‘non-interesting’ books 😉 . I haven’t read Jane Eyre yet but I hear it is a highly recommended book. Started reading It yet?

Yes I have read great reviews on the books and heard it talked about before. Haven’t started it yet, but soon. Gotta finish my other book. I tend to get 2 books going at once and that can get confusing. LOL!

I first read it in 1985 (I’m so old!), and it touched me so deeply. Such wisdom so gently delivered through Atticus and Scout.

I read Harper Lee years ago and from a child’s perspective. It has stayed with me all these years. It was only later that i discovered that it was a classic and critically acclaimed.
Thank you for the quotes. Must read the book again and pass it on to my kids.

I really like the last one, your personal favorite. That would be a good little mantra to try and stop stress. I’ve been meaning to read ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ for a while now. In my school we read ‘Of Mice and Men’ instead. Have you read that? 🙂

It is, I am a worrier so it does help me a lot 🙂 . You should go for it, it is worth the read. I haven’t read that actually, I wasn’t a literature student, but they read Lord of the Flies. Is ‘Of mice and men’ a classic too?
